A Quick Foray Into Non-Comic Moments

When I joined this family (Romeyn, Brady & Kyle), the boys were relatively young.  Brady was just shy of 16, and Kyle was just shy of 12.  I could not have asked for a better family.  It has been eleven years now, and Brady has just finished his first year in Syracuse Law, and Kyle is graduating from SUNY Potsdam with his Bachelor's Degree.  Our nest is feeling emptier, even though Kyle isn't leaving us just yet.

There's a lump in my throat the size of the Brooklyn Bridge.  I keep wandering close to the vicinity of tears.  So much of parenthood, even step-parenthood--is letting go.  Watching as the children leave and make their ways in the world, free to accomplish anything (as well as to make their own mistakes along the journey).  There is no perfect parent, and there is no perfect child.  There is Love--a heart-breaking and gigantic pile of Love.

I'm so proud of our boys, now men in their twenties.  They've pursued studies, dreams, and outlets in a way that makes me so happy.

Kyle is graduating from SUNY Potsdam, making him the fourth of our four to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree from Potsdam.  The campus has been a second home to the boys for much longer than I've been in the family.  I couldn't be prouder.

Be well, Fellow Introverts.
